about

I received the main theme of this piece at a moment of sadness in 2012. Eventually it came to be used to memorialize the life of Winston Greene, the protagonist in the musical EDEN IN BABYLON. "Urban Elegy" from EDEN IN BABYLON © 2010-2021 by Andrew Michael Pope.

lyrics

CYRUS & TIMOTHY:
Elegy to honor Winston Greene -
Rebel and romantic, poet and prophet.
Never in my whole life have I seen
Someone else like Winston Greene.

JOLIARRE:
Elegy to honor Winston Greene -
Revolutionary, warrior and martyr.
Even in his death so unforeseen,
Still he lives on, Winston Greene.

TAURA:
Even now, there's still alive in my heart
Something like a man from another dimension,
Far beyond your words my soul could impart:

CYRUS, TIMOTHY & JOLIARRE:
Drawing on the moon, long before dawn
For the sight so soon seen
Where the hero shines on!

TAURA:
Even as I sing, my heart's in my hands,
Trying not to mention over and over,
Every drop of pain, for who understands
How I loved you, Winston Greene?

CYRUS & TIMOTHY:
Elegy to honor Winston Greene,
Charismatic wizard, mighty magician,
Master of that magical machine
Set apart for Winston Greene!

ALL:
Even as I sing, my heart's in my hands,
Flashing my intentions over and over,
Nobody who hears me misunderstands

CYRUS & TIMOTHY: (with female back-up)
How I felt beside him,
Beside him where he sat so silently,
Looking side by side,
Feeling like I'd be ready to strike like an enemy!

ALL:
Even as I weep, the whole world will see
All my disaffection sooner or later,
Nobody can keep their hearts free from me!
Listen to the message of the Urban Elegy.

Nobody can sleep for long next to me!
They'll make the connection sooner or later,
Once you tread on any one of us, you tread on me!
Listen to the music of the Urban Elegy.

Even as I pray that justice be served,
I will pave the way, and sooner than later
Make sure those who turned against us get what they deserve,
Once they hear the message of the Urban Elegy.
Listen to the music of the Urban Elegy.
Listen to the message of the Urban Elegy:
The Urban Message: "Don't Tread on Me."

about

Andy Pope

I was born at 11:30 on a Friday night, when all across America, people were partying, and surely there was a standing ovation taking place at some Performing Arts venue, somewhere. With all those bizarre influences acting upon me at the moment of my birth, you'd think people would cut me some slack concerning my wild and oft-erratic personality. ... more
